The average Spanish worker is a low-wage earner if compared to the ones from the UK, according to the information provided by Adecco, the temporary work group, which places the Spanish wage in a 20% below the community average. The document, which was elaborated by means of figures provided by Eurostat, the European statistical office, estimates the Spanish remuneration at 21.500 gross euros a year in 2008.

On the contrary, in other European countries, the highest wages are for the services sector. Meanwhile, in Spain, the manufacturing sector is the luckiest one. According to the 14 countries which are taken into account by the Adecco’s report, in collaboration with the IESE, the UK is the one who credits the best salaries.

The salary divide concerning the sex gender is common for all countries, the intensity varies though. Spain is the fourth country which houses considerable sex discrimination, at a 34. 4% in case of full-time jobs. Differences have been reduced since 2003, in a soft way (3.6 %) though. But quite the opposite happened in the average from the euro zone, where the divide has lightly increased up to a 28%.

In spite of this, the Confederation of Employers and Industries of Spain (CEOE in Spanish) put the blame on the wages and redundancy because they have increased the employment destruction in Spain according to other countries from the European Union.
