It’s just one short boat trip along the Mediterranean sea what separates you from the Strait of Gibraltar, to the north of Africa. A few weeks ago, there has been brought into operation a new line of ferry, which had stopped working 40 years ago.
It is about the so-called Punta Europa II catamaran, which will cross the Strait of Gibraltar up to the north of Africa in only 40 minutes.
The inaugural trip took place from Algeciras to the Rock of Gibraltar, with a first-class contingent on board of belonging to Spain, the United Kingdom and Gibraltar, and showing this way, that three governments can and must work together. It is a cheap trip which combines quality and scenic beauty.
On last December 17, 2009, at 11.30 hours the new route was officially opened to the public, with five round trips a day. Every 40-minute trajectory will cost 8 euros for an outbound trip, and 14 euros in case of round trips. The ferry is sponsored by a company known as Transcoma, and can hold up to 150 people. They are planning a package tour that includes the transport in bus from the Port of Algeciras to some of the most important malls of the city in the price of the tickets.
The company also wants to create a ferry route which joins Algeciras with the Linea de la Concepción, along the Spanish south coast. For the tourists who desire to go to Gibraltar, this new ferry offers a very interesting choice, in addition to the possibility of visiting Morocco in one single day.
